Designing GroupWear: Weaving Silicon Threads into the Social Fabric

چکیده
This paper explores the design of a new type of name tag— a GroupWear tag—that is capable of displaying information related not simply to an individual, but rather to an interaction between two people (for example, a measure of how much they have in common). These GroupWear tags are discussed as an instance of “thin-layer” social technology: social technology that does not serve as the dominant medium for communication, but rather that creates a thin layer of information to augment face to face interactions at a social gathering. The “Social Computing Interface” challenges that are raised by attempting to design such a thin layer of technology are discussed in detail, including how to keep the technology from obscuring the underlying group dynamics, and how to keep the thin layer of information in close alignment with the social context.

Haque: Effect of Weft Parameters on Weaving Performance and Fabric Properties
Threads per inch and yarn count are some of the most important parameters that affect both weaving performance and fabric property. Experimental studies were conducted by weaving fabrics with three different picks per inch (PPI) and weft counts. The study shows that weaving performance is affected by the too high cover factor. Cover factor was calculated by dividing the threads/inch by the squa...

Textile manufacturing is a major industry in India. It is based on the conversion of three types of fibre into yarn which in turn is woven into fabrics. Fabrics are textile materials which are made through weaving ,knitting, braiding and bonding of fibres. Weaving is described as inter-lacing of two distinct set of threads to form cloth, rug or other type of woven textile. The lengthways thread...
متن کاملEnterprise Social Media at Work: Weaving the Social Fabric of Collaboration
The introduction of IT-enabled collaborative tools such as Enterprise Social Media (ESM) has brought new forms of organizational collaboration to the forefront. We introduce social fabric as a theoretical frame to reveal how ESM can become part-andparcel of the social environment in which organizational members interact and collaborate. Drawing on Bruno Latour’s cartography of controversies, we...

Plain weaving is one of the most beautiful and widely used geometric forms. In plain weaving, a set of distinct threads (or yarns) are interlaced with each other to form a fabric or cloth where each thread crosses the other threads ...
متن کاملOn 3-Harness Weaving: Cataloging Designs Generated by Fundamental Blocks Having Distinct Rows and Columns
A weaving drawdown is a rectangular grid of black and white squares with at least one black and one white square in each row and column. A pattern results from vertical and horizontal translations of the defining grid. Any such grid defines a tiling pattern. However, from a weaving point of view, some of these grids define actual fabrics while others correspond to collections of threads that fa...
